Somali Pirates hijack Korean/Singaporean oil tanker

Pirates off the Somali coast have hijacked an oil tanker carrying 24 crew members.

The Samho Dream was traveling through the Indian Ocean when it was attacked on Sunday while transporting crude oil from Iraq to the United States. The South Korean-operated, Singaporean-owner ship carried 5 South Koreans and 19 Filipinos at the time.South Korea has already sent  naval destroyer to counter the ship before it reaches shore.

In recent years, pirates off the Somali coast have made tens of millions of dollars in ransom by hijacking such ships. The Samho Dream’s cargo is estimated to be valued at around $170 million.
