Oxford English Dictionary has 99-year old error

leave a comment »

Some Australian professor discovered an error in the Oxford English Dictionary and its been publishing the error for 99 years.

The definition of ‘siphon’ stated that atmospheric pressure is what drives a fluid to pass through. This is incorrect. Gravity actually does the trick.

Dictionaries have been known to purposely have errors in unimportant areas to make sure that other dictionaries aren’t plagiarizing their publications, but this is totally wrong.

In other news, experts are still trying to find a person in this world that gives a damn about this.
