Jason Taylor visits the NY Jets

leave a comment »

Miami Dolphins free agent DE Jason Taylor is in NY speaking with the Jets about a possible move to Gang Green.

The Jets haven’t expressed interest before, since they were capped by the rules of the uncapped season. Under the previous collective bargaining agreement, a team that played in a Conference Championship game will only be able to sign a free agent if they lose one. Last week, the Arizona Cardinals signed Jets kicker Jay Feely.

Jason Taylor is a highly-decorated defensive end and played most of his career with the Dolphins, except for a one year stint with the Washington Redskins two seasons ago. The New England Patriots have expressed interest in him as well as the Dolphins who wish to re-sign him.

NFL Off-season news of the day

Bengals are interested in Antonio Bryant and T.O.
-The Jets should really pick up T.O. right now. He’s such a good value.

Thomas Jones signs with the Chiefs
-no objections on my part. Jones had a stellar season, but he’s on the decline and we gave him enough money.

L.T. visiting the Vikings?
-On paper, its hard to see why you’d get rid of one 30-year old (Chester Taylor)  to replace him with another, but think of what a sick sick combo this would be. AP and LT on the same team. Sucks for the NTs of the NFC North.

Browns finally release Derek Anderson
-The epitome of a one-hit wonder, the Browns have finally purged themselves of one mediocre QB to help them make a decision on who to start. Brady Quinn ain’t much better, and picking up Seneca Wallace isn’t much of an upgrade, but at least we now know who’s the boss in Cleveland. (Quinn, for those of you who still don’t know)

Big NFL news coming through the wire.

First and foremost, we need to start with my main man, Antonio Cromartie joining the NY Jets. The San Diego Chargers have let him go for a third-round pick, with a possibility of upgrading that to a 2nd depending on how good the Jets do next season. Granted that the Vicious System has already placed them as AFC Champions, we’ll assume its a 2nd round pick. Cromartie is going to be joining Darrelle Revis, creating the best cornerback duo in the league. Sorry, Lito Sheppard, you gots to go.

The Chargers have also dropped Ladainian Tomlinson last week and were shopping around Darren Sproles, recently tendering him for a 1st and a 3rd round pick, but later rescinding the tender. It seems like they’re on a clearance sale. Kinda feel bad for Phillip Rivers cuz his running game is leaving him, but kinda don’t cuz he’s an asshole.

The Chicago Bears are continuing their endless tradition of making poor decisions in life. After throwing away all their 2010 draft picks for that little bitch Jay Cutler, they pick up THREE 30-year old players this week. Thats right, THIRTY. Thats the magic number for RBs, and sort of about the time other positions get fragile. This week they pick up Julius Peppers who helps relieve the aging Brian Urlacher, who played one game this season. Its a good thing they signed him to a 6-year deal cuz THATs gonna motivate him to try real hard. I say they get half a good season out of him this year and a really good season during year 6. In between that, he’s got no reason to work.

The Bears also pick up Chester Taylor from the Vikings to aid their sophmore-slumped Matt Forte at RB. Its nice that lots of teams are going to the 2-back system now, but having one ok-RB and one 30-year old RB is like having 1.25 RBs.

In addition to Taylor and Peppers, they pick up Brandon Manuasjdiojeiojafafakdfjrl from the San Diego Chargers clearance sale. I don’t know why the Bears need three TEs (they haven’t released Clark or Olsen yet, and it would have made sense to release them before today to save bonus money), but they might be thinking ahead on this one. The Bears usually have a history of making great players bad by getting them injured. If this holds true, it might be best to get a couple more TEs cuz these three will last them til week 6.

The Detroit Lions pick up Kyle Vanden Bosh. Why should anyone care? Cuz the Lions are starting to pick up. A good DE can’t hurt. While the best path to success would be to get out of the NFC North, I’m expecting them to win maybe 5 or 6 games next season.
