Kina Grannis is awesome

Omg. How did I JUST discover Kina Grannis? She’s friggin awesome.

Apparently, her Message From Your Heart video played during the Superbowl in 2008 but I must have been slightly distracted from watching the Giants murder Thomas Brady that day.

Over 5GB of music for free. . . LEGALLY. . . sort of

SXSW is an annual festival that showcases up and coming artists hoping to draw new audiences, most prominently in music and film. In 2005, the festival started to put out a free batch of music showcasing one song from every band in the festival (only the ones who’ve consented, of course). They’ve stopped doing this after 2008, but a few fans have continued the free music movement and created their own page of torrents dedicated to the festival’s wide variety of music.

Some of the bands are definitely worth a look. However, d/l-er beware: I downloaded 2008’s batch 2 years ago and have still yet to filter to all the bad music. 5GB of music is a LOT.

Why listen to them when you can look at their pictures?

Music magazines need to figure out a new model. In the world full of multimedia creativity, print seems to be the most plain and ineffective way to showcase music. How are we supposed to know how good a band is by looking at pics of them? Spin hasn’t figured that part out so here’s a link to page of 50 pictures of bands currently at SXSW that they think you ‘must hear.’

NOTE: Spin is letting you d/l an album with 29 songs from these 50 artists, but if I took that into consideration, how would you expect me to insult them for this article? Come on, people. Being right is not about being right. Its about being what’s needed. hahahah.
