82nd Annual Academy Awards Winners

leave a comment »

As an aspiring filmmaker, I’m sure I should be more interested in the Academy Awards than I actually am, but I just don’t care anymore. The good movies dont get picked (yeah, I’m still pissed about the Dark Knight) and the system is flawed (having 10 nominees doesn’t fix anything). And it’s all too political.

I didn’t even think Hurt Locker was all that good.

Alas, it’s still the industry standard so I have to follow it to some degree. Here are the list of winners:

Best Picture – Hurt Locker
Best Director – Kathryn Bigelow (Hurt Locker)
Best Actress in a Lead Role – Sandra Bullock (The Blind Side)
Best Actor in a Lead Role – Jeff Bridges (Crazy Heart)
Best Actor in a Supporting Role – Christoph Waltz (Inglorious Basterds)
Best Actress in a Supporting Role – Mo’Nique (Precious)
Best Animated Feature Film – Up
Best Art Direction – Avatar
Best Cinematography – Avatar
Best Costume Design – The Young Victoria
Best Documentary Feature – The Cove
Best Documentary Short – Music By Prudence
Best Film Editing – Hurt Locker
Best Foreign Language Film – The Secret in their Eyes (Argentina)
Best Makeup – Star Trek
Best Original Score – Up
Best Original Song – Crazy Heart
Best Sound Editing – Hurt Locker
Best Sound Mixing – Hurt Locker
Best Visual Effects – Avatar
Best Writing (Adapted Screenplay) – Precious
Best Writing (Original Screenplay) – Hurt Locker

First iPad ad on TV

leave a comment »

If you were unfortunate enough to have seen the Academy Awards last night, Apple finally unleashed their first ad for their much-anticipated tablet device. It was produced in the same vein as all their other introductory ads for other new products where they play yuppy music on top of video showing the device in use.

The key decision in my opinion was showing the iPad’s on-screen keyboard. By showing the keyboard but refraining from showing the model typing on it, Apple leaves open the possibilities of how the keyboard should be used. Some people may prefer one-handed or one-fingered typing and other will rest it on their laps and type with both hands. Either way, the iPad’s typing system will not be as comfortable as the iPhone’s and this ad masks that. video below.
